I Don't Want To Take The Christmas Tree Down, I Never Do!

It is almost that time again. It seems like it was only yesterday we went to Home Depot to pick out our Christmas tree. This year was a bit shorter since Thanksgiving came later this year. We always get our tree the day after Thanksgiving.

Now I look at our tree and wish I did not have to take it down this weekend. It looks so pretty and smells so good! I also don't like putting away all the ornaments and then back up the attic they go until next year.

Many of you who commented on my post about getting the tree asked me to post photos of our tree so here they are:

We had a nice week off from work with Nestor's two children, a son who is 18 now and a daughter who is 14 flew in from San Antonio to spend the week here. Here is Nestor's daughter and her brother.

We heated up the pool so everyone could swim. The kids are like my own just as mine are like his own, so we really have 8 children altogether. They were all here for Christmas this year except for my oldest son who is 28 years old and is in California right now. Now our family is growing with 2grandbabies and 2 soon to be son in laws.

christmas in wellington florida

Each year I keep saying I am not going through all this tradition yet each year I do it again:)! I keep planning for Christmas in Hawaii! I said, if President Elect Obama can go and stay in a 9 million dollar mansion on the ocean in Hawaii for 10 days, well, so can I!

One year our family broke tradition when we lived in Seattle and spent the month of December in Disneyworld. That was one of the best Christmas' we ever had! Memories that the kids still have today.

Our little son wants to see snow so we may just take him to the snow next Christmas. It needs to be in and out! I am not sure how much he is going to like it once his hands get cold. He has no reference point of what it would be like except for the snow flurries we have nightly at CityPlace here in West Palm Beach Florida.

Mostly, we are so very grateful that we have been blessed with children of good health and a large family. We are grateful each day that we have food to eat, that the sun rises and that we have the most wonderful winters where we live here in Wellington Florida. We are so grateful that we own our own businesses and work for ourselves. What a joy it is to count our many blessings!

aylandra

Thank you all for reading our blog this year and may we share many more Christmas adventures with you.

Become Famous On Twitter Contest!

Dawn Abraham is a fellow coach who I have become friends with on Twitter! In fact I meet a lot of new friends on Twitter.

twitter contest

We were talking back and forth one day on Twitter how some people have thousands of followers and others do not. Is a person a good Twitterer if he or she has a lot of followers or is a Twitterer judged by the value added to the community?

This gave Dawn the idea to host a Become Famous On Twitter Contest. She asked me to be one of the judges. So now it is your turn to enter a contest that is not being judged on how many followers you get within a certain time frame but rather how many Tweets you write and the quality of those Tweets!

All you have to do is go to Tweetstats.com which is very easy to use. Put in your twitter user name and it will tell you:

  • How many tweets you write per hour
  • How many tweets you have per month
  • Your tweet timeline
  • Your reply statistics

After you get your information just go to Dawn's awesome blog and enter the information what your numbers are for each day of the week. There is an example for you to follow on her blog post about the contest.

The winners will be decided based on the highest number of tweets for any day and the quality of those tweets.

There will be 7 winners, one for each day of the week.

So even if you have let's say 300 tweets in a day but someone else has only 150 but wins; it is because the quality of their tweets outranked your number of tweets.

The winners will receive their names along with their websites posted on Twitter and on Dawn's and my blogs.

8 winners will be announced on January 5, 2009. You can enter your own name or your friend's names. Surprise a friend!
All 8 winners will get a html banner saying that you are a Twitter Famous Contest winner that you can put on your website and social networking sites.
Your names will also be mentioned in Dawn's newsletter, on her blog, on her Twitter and Facebook page.

So get ready to have some fun. We have one week left for the contest so get going now.

About Wellington Florida

Wellington Florida is a small home town 'feel' place to raise horses, families and friends. Living in Wellington Florida is like living in Old Florida where mature trees provide the backround and imagry of  horse and rider riding off into the sunset come to mind. Below sunsets are children playing and friends walking or biking along the community trails and pathways.

Our Community is the Village of Wellington, our neighborhood is our Village.

Wellington is a bedroom community. Wellington Florida is a planned unit development. It is the developmemt. In short we call it a PUD. That means that everything basically was preplanned and established as to what will be allowed to be built and what not. We became incorpororated in March 1996 as a Village. We are called, the Village of Wellington. We have our own zip code however when you try to order something online or over the phone, most of the time this zip code still pulls up West Palm Beach not as Wellington.

But believe me, we might be a small town of only about 38,216 year round population in the 'Real Wellington' but we are a mighty famous place! We happen to be the Polo Capital of the world inspiring some of the best Polo Teams from around the entire world to compete at top levels. We are also home to the Winter Equestrian Festival drawing crowds of spectators as well as contestants from all over the world.

Attracting famous people to Polo and Equestrian events is commonplace in Wellington Florida. Prince Charles plays polo here. The actor, Tommy Lee Jones (from Men in Black) owns his own Polo team in Texas and spends much of the Equestrian season here in Wellington. Sylvester Stallone plays polo here too.

In fact we are so sought after of a place to live and play that during the boom of real estate builders would use our name, Wellington as part of a name of their new subdivisions they were building even it they were NOT in Wellington! You can drive down in West Palm Beach and Lake Worth and see the name Wellington being used as a marketing tool and you say to yourself, 'but that is not a part of Wellington'. There was also a rush for annexing into Wellington. Builders were swarming to be annexed in so they could use the name of Wellington. Some of these areas are really not a part of our town in a community form of speaking. Also, there are people who live on the border of Wellington and Lake Worth and they will tell you they live in Wellington.

wellington florida luxury homes

Even real estate agents from as far away as Fort Lauderdale and Miami use the name of 'Wellington' in their marketing even though they are an hour away! We are only 14 miles away from Sunny South Florida beaches.

Wellington was named after C.Oliver Wellington who bought all this land back in the 1960's. Wellington did not start being developed until the late 70's. But most of the homes built here were built in the late 80's and 90's. It used to be all farmland, cow pastures and strawberry fields. For information about the developing of Wellington click here.

The total area of land that Wellington makes up is 28 square miles. This includes huge Equestrian ranches, Polo fields, Equestrian centers, homes, parks and schools. There may be a bit of a discrepency as to the actual size because of some outer areas annexing in so they could use the name Wellington.

Wellington has no downtown. We have no factories or industry. Most people who live here travel to work outside of Wellington. They leave in the morning and come back in the evenings. In the near future we are working to change that infrastructure. During the next 7 years there will some moves and ideas shaping on making Wellington able to produce income from revenue generated other than property taxes.

We get together for neighborhood and community events at our Wellington Recreation center or one of our Wellington village parks. There are summer concerts in the park and 4th of July fireworks. There is a Village of Wellington Easter egg hunt once a year and a holiday parade.

Click here to see our community built Tiger Shark Cove park, one of our most popular parks.

Wellington Florida parks

There are 2 high schools in Wellington Florida and 2 middle schools. We have A rated elementary public schools and a few top notch Private schools. We also have a very supportive community home school support groups.

We just had a wonderful new library built and welcomed a large Mall on the outskirts of Wellington's east border. Our community is our Village Of Wellington, our neighborhood is our Village. Stay tuned for many more posts on the highlights of the Village of Wellington Florida.

Congratulations To Our Daughter- Graduates From Palm Beach Atlantic University!

Congratulations to our lovely daughter, Tirzah who just graduated with her Bachelor Degree in Psychology from the most wonderful Palm Beach Atlantic University right on the Intracoastal in West Palm Beach Florida.

Tirzah graduation

The amazing part of this journey is that Tirzah has never set foot in a high school. She was homeschooled for much of her schooling years and went from directly from middle school to dual enrollment at the University at the age of 14.

Tirzah graduation

When we went to apply for Tirzah to go to Palm Beach Atlantic University she had to write a thesis of what it would mean to her to be admitted to this beautiful Christian private University campus right on the water. The architecture alone makes you want to take classes there. I was so jealous! This place is so peaceful and serene. You hear the church bells ringing from the Campus chapel and the students are so polite and kind. There is no smoking or drinking allowed anywhere on the campus or in the dorms. I felt comfortable having our daughter go to this school.

Tirzah graduation

The counselor told me that her thesis was better than most 18 year olds applying so she was welcomed to the University. Since a college grade is something you can not erase from your school record she was only allowed to take one class the first semester. She did great and we moved along from there. By the time she was 16; she was a full time student carrying a full load of classes. She changed her minor a couple of times which added on some more time. But she knew at the age of 14 that she wanted her degree in Psychology.

Tirzah graduation

By the time she was 16 it was getting too hard for me to travel back and forth driving her to her classes with my new baby so we had her dorm at the University so she could get the whole 'college experience'. The rooms are all supervised carefully and no coed dorms unless you are married. The school promotes abstinence until marriage. I felt comfortable leaving her in good hands. There are no sororities and no fraternities and no initiation stuff going on.

Tirzah graduation

What a journey this has been. We are so very proud of Tirzah graduating. The commencement ceremony was extremely spiritual. Since this is a Christian University, all meetings begin and end in prayer. The day before the graduation ceremony we attended her graduation brunch where the University's pastor gave a great talk on knowing your world view and keeping the faith even when you are tempted to do what everyone else is doing. As Christians he told them that when they go out into the world there will be times when they will feel all alone, everyone else will seem to be against them but they need to know that Jesus is there. They are not alone.

Tirzah graduation

The graduation ceremony started off with an opening prayer, the procession of the graduates with all the school flags and then the guard bringing in our USA flag. Then we said the Pledge of Allegiance and   sang our National Anthem. Goose bumps always seem to crawl down my arms when we see our colors and sing in unison our National Anthem.

Tirzah graduation

Here is a photo of one of our sellers. Mrs Whiteheart was also graduating this month from Palm Beach Atlantic University.

kelly whiteheart graduation

And here is one of our church members, Brother Mantor, who also graduated on the same day as Tirzah. He was furthering his education with the online program the university has to offer. He works in the medical field.

mantor graduation

The commencement address was given by H Wayne Huizenga Jr. He is the president of Huizenga holdings Inc a company that manages and owns the Miami Dolphins and owns the Dolphin Stadium in Miami Florida. They also own a lot of real estate. He is also a founding board member of the Bank of Florida and Chairman of the board of Rybovich, a marina and yacht refit company in West Palm Beach Florida.

Tirzah graduation

Mr Huizenga Jr serves on the board of the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association, the Boys and Girls Club of Broward county and the Christian Community foundation of South Florida. He helps the Souper Bowl of Caring, Door of Hope Outreach, Trinity Forum, Vida Nueva Ministries and Lifework and Impact.

He married his highschool sweetheart in 1991 and they have four children.

His talk was beyond what I would ever expect from a commencement speaker. You see, he and his father are so wealthy, more wealthy than most people ever even dream of being. He told his story of how he and his father became so wealthy  and how selfishly he lived his life in lavish luxury. He and his family would travel first class all over the world, they lived in a mansion, had yachts and so on and so forth. All of his friends were the same way. His life was changed by one man he met who became his friend. This friend would go on Wayne's yacht with him often. He always carried his bible with him wherever he went. One day Wayne asked him why he carried that bible around, and that is the beginning of Mr Huizenga's conversion to follow Christ and use his money for good. Now, as you can see by the organizations he belongs to that many people have been blessed with his money. This is a perfect example of all the good that money can do and how valuable rich people are to our charities and world when they have an eye single to the glory of God. His story was one that really moved Nestor and I. We vowed again to serve the Lord better through this inspirational message.

Tirzah graduation

Most of all I was so appreciative of the blessings we have to be able to even be sitting in this graduation ceremony filled with prayers, songs of worship and so many young people dedicating their lives to Jesus Christ. We have the freedom right now to do this, let us always be mindful and never take this for granted. When the foes enlist armies to fight against our freedom to have a religious education and places of worship we must be ready to stand up for our rights and protect our freedoms.

We love you Tirzah!

Parents Get Busy on Jan 20! Pass this on

As a parent and a homeschool parent I am very proactive in parental rights and the rights to choose the school for your children. I also believe that as parents we have the right to tell our children what time to be home at night, who they can hang out, whether they can take drugs or not. We have a right to know where our children are and a right to go and get them if they are out passed their curfew. Tough love is in order in many a teenage family home and that is alright by me.

Here in the United States most parents are good parents. Most parents take care of their children even if it in ways we would not do ourselves. The problem is that much of the world is not civilized in this way and therefore the United Nations is trying to do something about that. While I totally agree we need to educate and help countries that abuse and enslave children not to do so, making global laws is not going to change cultures.

It may seem noble on one hand to do our part to protect the world but not at the expense of our own parental rights and freedoms. The problem with global treaties is that we would have to obey them and global treaties trump state constitutions. The only constitution it does not trump is the Federal Constitution. This would mean that if this UN Rights of the Child act is signed by President Obama your rights will be on the chopping block. The state of Washington tried a child's rights law and they ended up getting rid of the law because it just won't work. I know attorneys who represented parents in these cases that ended up totally destroying good families.  I am not willing to risk my rights and sacrafice my children's welfare to the global courts.

That is why I am asking you to please sign this petition after reading this letter from Michael Ferris, an attorney and President of Parentalrights.org. They also need funds to keep fighting in all of our behalf, any donation will help us fight the democrats from signing this bill. This has been one of Hillary Clinton's dreams to have this treaty ratified. Bill Clinton signed the treaty but the Republican congress did not allow it to pass.If you are a liberatarian, a republican or an independant , then this matters. This is taking a huge backwards step away from individual state's rights to govern their citizens and parents who will be at the mercy of what government deems is best for your child in every possible situation.

The majority of Americans are against signing this treaty, they are against the dangers that it carries with it but Congress does not listen to Americans unless we call and write and email. This is what we did when we protested the first bailout. We shouted, we called and we emailed and they listened and voted NO. This is even more important. Economics will turn around, we can always make more money but we can not undo harm to our children and to our families. This is much more important and it will just slip by without notice or talk because it does not get the attention the economy does.

Please help us make the Parental Rights Amendment a reality so that the UN treaty will not have authority over our parental rights. Thank you. Please reblog as often as you can. Spread the word.

As soon as January 20th arrives, let congress and President Obama know we do not want them to sign this treaty. If they do sign the treaty then we need to have support for Congress to add the Parental Rights amendment to our Federal Constitution. I know that our founding forefathers never dreamt that this could happen and therefore did not add the parental rights verbage. Who would have ever thought back in those days that a parent would one day not have a right to raise our children.

A Letter from Michael Farris,
President of ParentalRights.org.

Dear Friend of Parental Rights,

I was in the United States Senate this past week meeting with lawyers for a Senate office. They told me directly what I have been hearing indirectly on a regular basis ever since the election.

Those who want to change family policy in America to comply with international law are preparing a full-scale effort to seek ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child during this next Congress. Barbara Boxer recently told a planning group that they intend to use children’s health care as leverage to seek ratification of this UN children’s rights treaty.

Please link to our website to see a succinct summary of the problems with this UN treaty.

The strength of their forces has been greatly increased with the addition of Hillary Clinton as the nominee for Secretary of State. She will have direct control over the submission of this treaty to the Senate and will acquire the authority under international law to sign any other treaty on any subject.

Hillary Clinton was the person who made the announcement for the Convention on the Rights of the Child when her husband’s administration signed the treaty. Seeking its ratification is a lifelong dream for her.

Our situation is grim if we were to look only at the position of the elected officials.

However, recent post-election polling demonstrates that almost 70% of Americans do not believe that the use of international law in American courts on such matters is appropriate. Less than 20% favor the use of international law. (The rest are undecided). Virtually every sub-group in America opposes this kind of use of international law.

America is on our side. However, we have to be able to get the word out to help people hear the truth about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Our proposed Parental Rights Amendment will permanently stop this treaty. So we have a one-two punch planned for the internationalists.

First, we must build a huge grassroots movement of patriotic Americans who believe that good families should be able to raise their children without worrying about compliance with international law.

Second, these same grassroots forces need to convince our elected officials that we are not content with defeating this treaty for today alone. We insist on a permanent solution. We need the Parental Rights Amendment.

I need you to do two things to help this become a reality. First, please send a copy of this letter to everyone you know who believes in parental rights and American patriotism.

Second, we need to raise a war chest to get prepared to launch a massive grassroots campaign. The other side has millions of dollars left in their campaign coffers, and they have the President of the United States, the Secretary of State and all the media waiting to carry their message.

We can win the debate because we have the truth on our side. And we have public opinion. But we won’t win if we can’t reach people.

Will you please make as big a gift as you can to support Parentalrights.org?

Here is what they are saying about us. At the hearing which featured Barbara Boxer, one of the speakers said that the people who will oppose this treaty are the “narcissistic sovereignty crowd.” In other words, those who love America first are so guilty of excessive self-love that he describes us as having the mental illness of narcissism.

This is their real heart. Not only do they want international law to control our families. They think that we are mentally ill for loving America.

It is time for those of us who believe in loving our families and loving America to rise up! We will not surrender this country or our children to such people.

Get involved today! The battle is about to begin.

For God, family, and America,

Michael Farris
Please contribute now -- the need is great!

Gifts to parentalrights.org are not tax deductible. These gifts, however, enable us to engage in "political" actions like petitioning Congress to pass the Amendment.

Tax-deductible gifts can also be made, through Home School Foundation. Just check the box next to ParentalRights.org fund. These gifts fund our efforts to educate the public to the dangers that threaten our families.

Do You Answer The Phone During Family Dinner Time?

The circus was coming to town and would be in town for only one weekend. Father promised Johnny and David he would take them to the circus. family time The boys were so excited to go. After all, father worked long hours and missed many of the boys events because his phone would ring for a big business deal. The boys were used to the words, " A client just called boys, we will have to do this another time." The let downs had become a part of life in their household. Mom would have everyone sitting down at the dinner table, as soon as the family prayer was over more times than not father's phone would ring and the boys knew he was leaving the dinner table to talk to a client.

In the excitement of the circus being in town the boys got up extra early this Saturday morning and rushed down to the kitchen table to get their breakfast. Father was ready to go as well. The family sat down to eat breakfast and as usual Father's phone rang. Father answers the phone while Johnny and David watched in fear of the inevitable, another promise made to be broken, another day alone without their father. The boys knew too well the scenario and the excuses made.

The boys hung on every word as their father spoke on the phone. Then they heard their father say, " I am sorry, this is going to have to wait until Monday because I am taking my sons to the circus today. "

When you are at the dinner table which is one of the most sacred times a family has together are you jumping up to answer the phone? What is the example you are leaving for your children when you do that or not? You see, we are the leaders of our families and our children will become us. What are your children internalizing when they see you leave the dinner table to answer the phone and run out the door to show a house to a buyer?

Studies have shown that families who spend dinner together have distinct advantages over those that don't.

  • Better grades in school
  • Better readers
  • Better health and nutrition
  • Less drug use
  • Save money on food

There needs to be a sacred time in your family daily and weekly where no one and nothing takes prescedence over your family. This time, whatever it is, whenever it is, can be set by you and your children. Many families choose dinner time, many choose Sundays. But set aside that time. This could be a new year's promise for yourselves and your family.

family time

Start by setting boundaries with your clients. Stop asking how high when a client asks you to jump. You can argue all day long about how you can not afford to miss that ONE client, that magic million dollar buyer you have been waiting for. And I will say, you can not afford to miss one more week without time spent with your children. There will always be another buyer, another seller but there will never be another family like yours.

I have found through many years of working with buyers and sellers that not one of them has expected me to place them above my family. I do not work on Sundays and everyone I work with knows that. Do you know what they say to me? They say, "Good For You."  We don't lose clients because of our Sundays and I promise you, either will you.

My friend, Missy Caulk raised 5 children and never missed a soccer game, football game, cheer leading performance and she runs a great business. It can be done. And if you happen to lose that one client because you have a life and a family, well, they did not deserve you to begin with. If Missy could do it with 5 kids and I could do it with 6 kids than anyone can do it.

So start the New Year with a promise to your family that from now on you will turn your phone on silent during dinner.

Why Move To Sunny South Florida in the Wintertime?

The White Christmas is over. I know when I lived in the snow areas of Utah and Washington I loved the first snow. We always wanted the white Christmases, but as soon as Christmas was over we were done with the shoveling and ice and cold.

I refused to drive in the snow. I was scared of black ice. I was scared of skidding and sliding and losing control of my vehicles. We had 1 ton vans when the kids were little for safety and to fit them all in. But even with those heavy vans, we still would slide down a hill or two! Not my cup of tea!

So if you feel like I do it may be time to turn your thoughts to sunny warm beaches with golden sand and water fun. Our pool is heated and we enjoy our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas swimming times with our family.

Snow is fun to visit once in a while, but sunny skies and temperatures in the 70's and 80's in the wintertime is just what living is all about!

Watch this hillarious video thanks to Fernando Rosado who sent this to us today in an email - then call us to get your house listed with one of our network of agents we have around the country and move on down. We will get you into a home here and you can join us in the sun.

Celebrate The True Meaning Of Christmas- Remember Him Always.

As we open up presents let us remember why we give gifts-

the wise men followed the star to see their new king

Bringing precious gold and myrr , knowing he is the one who lifts-

Our burdens, our cares, our worries, our sins

Think in return what gift it is that you shall bring.

- What can I say Brad! He is ActiveBrad and a wealth of information! He has the best job- getting all that info to us all on Active Rain!

Bob Stewart- Bob is always  prompt to call me back and my friend to bounce things off off. A young leader that shines with a caring attitude.

Active Rich- Rich is supportive and makes me feel appreciated for the articles I wrote to help you develop your Active Rain experience.

Missy Caulk- My best friend in the Rain- someone I can bounce anything on and I will get a heartfelt response. We are politically alligned and made our bond even deeper through this past election year and we have yet a full year ahead of petitions, letters and phonecalls to make for the grass roots concerns and rights.

Bill Gassett- Who always comes up with more for us all to do. He is a neverending resource for social networking.

Jeff  Belonger  - The Active Rain source for FHA and mortgage information from Capital Hill. He goes the extra mile for his clients and for us. Thank you for your referrals.

Lisa Schlitz
- Our awesome buyer's agent on Nestor and Katerina's team for International Property and Investments Inc. Lisa goes the extra mile for our clients and I am thankful that she came into our lives and business.

Gene Wunderlich- I can always count on great satiric comedy about the politcal fiascos in my native California:) When I need a good laugh, he is there.

Jennifer Monroe- (formerly Bukaty) She is full of transparency that puts most writers who make that claim to shame. Her heartfelt writing rises above best selling novelists. I see her name up in lights on those best seller lists one day.

Simon Conway-
The newest American Citizen on Active Rain. During this past election year Simon's blog would be the first that I would go to to get the scoop and participate in lively debates. If I needed to get my blood going I would just head over to Simon's blog for my political fix for the day.

Carole Provenzale- You can count of Carole for not only fabulous photos of New York but she is on top of her Feng Shui game! I can always count on her for the most practical Feng Shui advice, plus she is a dear friend.

Margaret Woda
- Margaret was one of my first friends on Active Rain. She was one of the first people to comment along with Sally Cheeseman on my Localism posts.
Margaret pays it forward with great posts to help you in your real estate business with an emphasis on newbies.

Lola Audu- who pays it forward with high quality lessons that are sparked with some amazing talent in writing.
You are not going to just skim over her posts, not just a drive by here! You've got to soak it all in and she makes you think.

More dear friends who have gone out of their way to help me other than the ones above include:

Jeff Geoghan
,  Jason Sardi, Patricia Kennedy, Sharon Simms, Pamela Williamson, Karen Rice, Cyndee Haydon, Sara Homan, William Johnson, Marey Hoeppner ( Our Virtual Assistant who is awesome!)
Jeremy Blanton, Jason Crouch, Terri Ellis, Mike Jones, Brian Block, Jo Soss, Rebecca Levinson, Yvette Smith, George Tallabas and Nicholas Goglucci.

To some of  my coaching clients on the rain that I treasure and love: ( some do not want me to reveal who they are right now)
