If you have been following my posts over the years you will know that I write often about time management and the value of time.
Time is worth more than money.
Time is the one thing that once you spend it you can never replace it.
Time is the one thing that once it is gone; it is gone.
You can always make more money but you can not make more time.
You can choose to spend your time wisely and on productive matters or you can spend it foolishly.
When we are young time seems like something that is going to last forever. But once you reach the half century mark like I have; time takes on a whole new meaning.
We look back over our lives and see the wasteful spending of moments that will never be recovered. So we move forward with a different attitude towards time. Spending my time watching TV is certainly not productive so I rarely watch TV. Spending my time nagging and complaining is not going to help any problem I may be having.
Taking my laptop outside to sit on my patio and blog while I listen to the birds singing to each other is a valuable expenditure of my time.
Hugging Nestor and our son is a moment that is worth spending. Homeschool to us is a very well spent block of time.
Spending an hour on the phone coaching an agent who truly wants to make his or her business successful is a worthy investment of my time.
Producing new products, writing, teaching, marketing our listings, talking to sellers about productive matters- building online relationships- these are all moments of time that will help me to grow and help others.
Then there are some of those necessary but unworthy of my time activities that must be attended to. Many of those things we can delegate to others to do. One of the most important lessons I learned about owning businesses is to spend your time on the actions you love and delegate the rest. Spend your time doing the income producing activities and delegate the rest to VAs or assistants.
With those things that just can not be delegated for whatever reason and I still have to get them done, like sorting out my receipts to get them ready for our accountant- I take a timer and set it for 15 minute blocks of time or 30 minutes depending on the activity. Then I don't have to procrastinate until the hour before a deadline. This way I force myself to stick to the task at hand because I know as soon as the ringer goes off- I am FREE from that task! Try it, you might like the results.
No matter what your age is- treasure your time. Don't spend it on things that do not matter in the big picture. You are always moving. So you can choose to move forward or backwards. The laws of the universe do not allow for standing still. The choice is up to you.

I agree that time is limited and to use it wisely. Here I am going on to midnight and I am on AR I will be up at 6:30 and to the office by 7:30 and wonder how to get it all done. I am prioritizing with a life coach and find that there still is not time. the treadmill must have a slow down button on it somewhere.
You can not buy time... and sadly we all waste too much of it.... it takes a tragedy sometimes to slow you up and make you see that you need to stop and enjoy life, your friends, our family... before it is too late to do so....
From the desk of David Dee,
Katerina, time is irreplaceable. I like how you said, 'spend your time on the actions you love and delegate the rest.' Sometimes it is harder to do because we want to make it's done right so we don't delegate. However, this is essential to getting more time for ourselves to do the work which are 'productive'. Great reminder about being cognizant of our time.
Spending time with family and loved ones is never time wasted! But, you are right, so many people waste their lives in front of the TV and at the movies. I think it might be a way to escape their real lives, kind of like a drug. Really a shame, when they could do so much more if they just stopped wasting the time they have been given.
I feel guilty that my husband gets the short end of the stick. I really do. But I'm looking forward towards "uninterrupted" time on our 10-day spring break.
How easily is to get so involved in maintaining a life by losing a life. . we have so much to learn from our European counterparts
Nice, Katerina. A good message to start today. Thanks for the right path!
Thanks so much for the important reminder...we only get one new day each morning!
Kateria, I love that time costs more than money, because it is so true. You can' get it back, gone forever. As a business owner we need to be mindful of that and hire folks to let us have time to enjoy the moments with family.
Katerina, I need to get better with time management, there is always room for improvement isn't there? But enjoying each moment is key, no matter what it is that you are doing.
Sorting receipts? Sing while you are doing them.
Writing a post for business? Sit outside, as you say.
Driving from house to house? Put in an audio book.
Or just sing and dance!
Very beautifully written, and "timely" post, Katerina. Many of us (maybe I should say "I") get caught up in the tyrranny of the urgent...and lose out by not taking the TIME to evaluate the best way to spend my time..
Great post! You never know (not to be morbid) which day will be your last, so I will ask myself "is this how you want to spend your last day on earth" and it makes deciding so much easier! Needless to say, cleaning my house always loses out to just about anything else!
Quite profound. When you run out of time what do you have left? I enjoyed this nicely written post.
Thanks for the reminder-I've reached the mid-point in my life and am so aware of the time I spend on work and not my family-there has to be a balance.
Yes, the precious present. Once it is gone you can never get it back.
Thank you all for your nice comments. I published this post right before I went to sleep as I love the quiet nocturnal hours to write, read and plan. Then I needed to read my own post this morning as I overslept which meant that my little 7 yr old was going to late to his homeschool Lego class that we have a coop for. I had to take a deep breath and realize while he did not want to miss a moment of his favorite class, that it was not the end of the world! Lessons are even for those that write them, LOL!
This was a great lesson for all of us, Kat. I wish that the young could realize how much time they waste on unimportant things sooner, it would make my life as a teacher much easier if they did.
Great post this morning!! I really like the timer idea!! Thanks for sharing!
I like the timer idea too. You have such a nice way of reminding us to use our time wisely!
I love your post Katerina. My time quote is, "Remember, your kids spell Love T-I-M-E." I wish I knew who to credit the quote to; it has really stuck with me over the years.
Good advise and time flies the older you get. I always used to look forward to the next step in life (wanting to be a teenager, wanting to be in my 20's, wanting marriage and kids) but now just try to enjoy where I am. There are not a lot of steps left.
Katerina, I love your idea about using a timer and setting it for 15 or 30 minute intervals. I'm going to try this to open up some time for me.
I was thinking the same things last night and called my sister to talk about it. One can't go back but at this benchmark every second is precious to me.
Hi Katerina! Oh, you KNOW this hits me in the gut! Bulls-eye! This is a struggle that I often wonder if I'll ever master--I'm determined though. I think I'll have it once this market turns around though--I've devoted additional time where I would not normally spend it and it's kicking my butt! LOL
Have a great evening...
Great post and a very blatant reminder to me. I love the timer idea, especially for those must do tasks I hate!
Time management and prioritizing are critical life skills. By the way, I saw you guys in Realtor magazine - nice article. Congrats on the feature.
This is a problem for us as well. Of course, you can never get back those precious moments or turn back the clock. "Time waits for no man." Take time to smell the roses!
Well put Katerina! Last year I found myself spending many hours playing Spider Solitaire on my computer. One day, I just decided what a waste of time it really was and haven't played since. Now I'm putting those hours to good use. Still don't have enough hours in a day to do what I want to do but at least I'm not wasting time like that!
