Tonight we said good bye to our loving and beautiful family member, our Siamese Cat, Cleo. If you are interested in finding out how we got to this point please read, A Hit and Run in Wellington That Makes No Sense.
We spent this last day with Cleo and then brought him to the Animal Hospital in Wellington Florida on Greenview Shores in the old Winn Dixie Plaza next to our Chiropractor's office, Dr. Dressner. My daughter, my little one and I went to the hospital with him.
After some time in the examination room we discovered the following:
The car had just nipped him near his tail and had not done any damage. All of his bones were strong and intact. His spine was fine. The paralysis was caused by a stroke. He had a bad heart, one of his kidneys was no longer working right, his liver was shrinking and he also has swallowed a dime at some point in his life and it was in his stomach releasing toxins. The clot traveled down to his legs and caused them to become paralyzed. He had no feelings in his legs, he could not posture to go to the bathroom and he was upset because he could no longer walk. The prognosis was a less than 15% chance of recovery. He was not a patient for surgery due to his heart condition. So after informing all of my kids about the prognosis; my daughter, Nestor and I decided it was best to help put him to rest. The doctor also believed this was the best thing to do.
It was a very sad moment, lots of tears, but a farewell was the humane and decent action to take. He has been in our family for 13 years and in a cat's life that is like 75 years old. He had a great life with us. When he was two years old I began breeding his Siamese line. He was a great stud. We have many of his offspring around the country in good homes. We stopped breeding him about 7 years ago. The biggest memory is one of fun and lots of talking. He talked about everything as is usual with Siamese cats.
When I was explaining to our 5 year old son what was going on I asked him if he understood that we were not going to be seeing Cleo again he stated with surety," He is going to Heavenly Father and then coming back to us as an Angel." The faith of a child! God Bless our Cleo and looking at the glass half full we are appreciating the memories and treasure the time we had together with him. He richly blessed our lives for many years.

Katerina - How sad that you had to say goodbye to your dear furry friend, Cleo.
From your post, I know he was well loved and will be missed.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
I remember when I had to put down my Ashley Cat.
She was almost 18 years old.
Ashley Cat
Very beautiful tribute to Cleo.......it is hard when our pets have been with us so long and we have to make these difficult decisions........but as you know it was the right thing to do. Thank you for sharing this.
Katerina, I'm so sorry for you. What more is there to say? Maybe you can get one of his grandchildren. I'm sure one of his kittens has had kittens of her own by now. A new kitten will soften the blow a little bit and make the grieving a little easier.
Take care of your family.
Bill Roberts
Katerina and Nestor, I understand what you're going through. I'm so sorry that you lost your beautiful Cleo. It's so hard to say good bye to someone you love sooo much. I'm sure that being surrounded by his loving family was a comfort to him. My prayers are with you.
Katerina- My thoughts are with you and your family. I am very sorry for your loss. I know how difficult it can be to go through the difficult times that you are going through. The opposite is that you will always have the loving memories to remind you of how special of a family member your Cleo was to all of you.
My deepest sympathies,
Scott
Katerina,
My deepest sympathies for the loss of Cleo. I know he will be sadly missed, but you do have good memories of him and he did live a good life. I feel your pain because I have had to put down several different animals in my lifetime. It is never easy.

I just read this post and wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. Pets bring us so much joy and I have cried
like a baby when I lost my best friend a few years ago.
I swore wouldn't get another dog because I get so attached. Then my wife convinced me to just stop by a pet store to take a look. When we walked out of the store we bought a newspaper to look for a new best friend. By the end of the day we adopted Jake.
I hope he is with us for a long time.
May you find comfort in the joys you shared with Cleo.

Linda Futral
Linda- Thank you so much for your condolences and kind words. Thank you for caring enough to write a comment. Is Tater a cat? This week as we eat we see Cleo sitting at our feet looking up at us for food, and my daughter saw him laying on the top of the sofa like he likes to do. Maybe Tristan knew more than we did with his comment that Cleo is coming back as an angel. Katerina
Katerina,
I am sorry to hear that Cleo was suffering. I am sure it was hard to let him go. As I said earlier, our dog Jack is a big part of our family and I can't imagine losing him. He gets in the darndest messes from time to time but we love him anyway.
Katerina
I am so sorry for your loss! Thank you for sharing your story with us.
