Buyers From Norway Happy To Finally Close -
Onsker velkommen til din nytt hjem.
This was a tough short sale to negotiate. There were two loans on this property. One of the attorneys we work with referred the short sale to us to list and negotiate the short sale since she does not work on short sale negotiations.
The second was with SLS and they are tough to work on for seconds. In fact, they wanted in the beginning a 40% payoff of the note. We finally settled for about a 28% settlement on the note.
We listed this condo for sale. Then we were contacted by this wonderful couple from Norway. They had flown in to visit with a relative, saw the unit and then we wrote up an offer on our listing for them.
They don't have short sales in Norway. While the explanation of what is a short sale is basic math and simple to understand the process and how long a short sale can take are not even a reasonable person's comprehension much less someone who is not from our country.
We warned the couple that a short sale can take a very long time and what they needed more than the cash they were bringing to buy the condo with was patience and lots of it.
Communicating with the buyers all the way over in Norway was accomplished through email and Skype. We had the closing all set up for an International Closing however the week after we got the approval letter from the lenders, the buyers decided they wanted to fly here to South Florida to attend the closing in person.
So we met them at our attorney's office who was doing the closing and the same attorney who had referred the sellers to us. We stopped off at the flag store on the way to the closing to get a flag of Norway along with a USA flag to welcome them to their winter home here in Florida.
This is going to be their winter home to escape that snow in Norway!

First, congratulations on your closing! Second, you said it well: "While the explanation of what is a short sale is basic math and simple to understand the process and how long a short sale can take are not even a reasonable person's comprehension"
Sorry about the Html codes....I cleaned it up.
Katerina, looks like you have two very happy new homebuyers. Seems like you managed to get them to understand and go along with the not so short "short sale".
Glad it worked out :)
Love and light,
Laura
Good Norwegian, Katerina! You learned a lot very quickly! I am hoping to have an Icelandic closing sometime this year.... I would love to have a couple from Norway call me!!
Dagny- Do you speak Norwegian? I love Norway too!
After all I am a Viking from Latvia:)
Very cool Katerina. The power of the internet is awesome.
HI Nestor and Katrina,
You got to love Free Trade..... trade with anyone from anywhere, as long as the buyer wants to buy and the people are for real. Nice job well done.
EXCELLENT! We love international buyers, since in Manhattan New York we do our closings in person, most of the time the buyers fly here and get to sign off on their closing papers. The power of internet bring everyone closer together.
Katerina - Congratulations on the sucessful short sale. It's a tough enough job keeping local buyers through to the end in a short sale let alone buyers who are from out of the country. Best wishes to them in their new home!
Thanks Eileen for the re-blog! Yes, the power of the internet:) Katerina
