I have received so many comments on my posts with this question:
What are you using to get those screen shots and torn edges around them? Also, what are you using to get those red arrows on your screen shots.
So instead of answering each one of those comments with the details I just wrote this quick post about it.
Cyndee Haydon turned me on to this cool tool. It is called, Snagit. You can try it out for 30 days for FREE. You do not even have to give your credit card number in order to do the FREE trial. After that it is only $39.95 for a one time price. Not per month, not per year, just one time! Next to mybloglog it is the best tool I purchased last year.
Here is a screen shot I just took of the home page for Snagit. I captured a part of the screen and then it automatically gets put into the Snagit editor where I just simply clicked on the torn edges feature and this is the result. Very simple to do. You can capture any part of the screen you want to capture.
In the above screen shot I just took a smaller section of the larger image you see above of the Snagit home page and then instead of using torn edges, I added the dropped shadow feature to this box. Easy!
At first I was a bit intimidated to use it but the tutorials are so easy. I made some mistakes and still do but I practise and love the results I am getting.
You can capture any screen and any portion of the screen. You can also capture anything that is on your computer. It is easy to edit with the edges and there are a multitude of edging effects that you can use. This is way better than using screen capture or using your print screen button. Snagit is much more versatile and obviously much better to apply to presentations.
Then you can add arrows, highlights, bubbles with text in them, stamps and much more. I have only been using Snagit for about 2 months now and I learn something else to do with it each time I open it up and use it. In the above screen capture I used the red arrows. You can change them to whatever color you like. Then I used a faded edge finishing touch. You can see how the edges are faded. The call out buttons are really fun too.
You are only limited by your own imagination. There are so many cool ways to use this tool. I highly recommend it and thank you Cyndee for sharing this with me.

Debe- I just used Snagit for the first time to send one of the agents I coach a sample of something I wanted her to do, to email it to her! How easy was that! I was so excited. That was the first time I used it for email. I would like to know more about how you use it for marketing materials. I could capture the screen shots of my rankings on google for listing presentations, I just thought about that! Because when you print from the screen you waste a lot of paper and it does not align right many times, hey, thanks! A new idea!

Marilyn- No you could not copy copyrighted materials without the consent of the author but when you are promoting something that you are using, such as how I snagged a part of the snagit site in order to show how ot use it and give my testimony of it, then that is fine. I am sure that Snagit would be happy that we are promoting their product. My bloglog screen snags are my blog results and usually I use it for google searches and SEO tutorials.

Gary- This is much faster and easier than Photoshop. For those that don't have photoshop, this is much less $. I like simple and easy. I was intimidated at first so I did the 30 day free trial. And then I was able to play around with it and get used to it., it was easy to learn. Most of all you put the little snagit capture tool on your toolbar on firefox and IE and also on outlook, just click and go. kiwi

I just used it for the first time to send one of the agents that I coach what something on her website looked like because she could not understand when I just told her, but when she saw the part of the site, then she understood. You can do all kinds of things, it is very versatile. The kids make their CD song lists really fast. You can import the images as jpg files into power point, etc.

Adam- I know that you are using the cool free tool for screen captures but Snagit is more than just screen capture, it is really versatile for power point presentations, online tutorials, saving all the images in one file from an entire website, adding graphics, arrows, text over images, and so much more, I am so happy that I found this because now I can do so much with making my posts look better.
I just did a text word art in a word document and then used snag it to drop it in my blog so now I can use different sizes and colors in my posts!
I have Snag It, I am trying to learm how to use it and it is a bit frustrating, but I will persevere. Thanks.

sounds like they've made a number of enhancements to the application. i can remember utilizing snagit a few years ago and a few of the effects you describe (and those shown above!) were not part of the package.

We use a free shareware screen print program that works great. It's called Gadwin and can be downloaded at http://www.gadwin.com.

I just dowloaded it this weekend. Watch the video's many times, I actually used the screen capture on my post on my IDX seach site. I also downloaded it for FF, but that is not working properly. Are you using FF or IE with snagit? I went to the forum and some said it wasn't working with FF 3.0.
I love the functionality but I can tell it will be a learning curve for me. Maybe you can show me sometimes this weekend.
