What do you think about when stress hits you? Do you watch a lot of negative stuff on TV, like the news and shows with negative story lines like murder and such?
What do you do right before you fall asleep and right when you first wake up in the morning? The first 15 minutes that you are awake in the morning and the 15 minutes before you fall asleep at night are the most important minutes of each day and night. This is when your alpha brain waves are at their peak. What that means is this is the closest you get to your subconscious and conscious minds connecting. The messages you place in your mind during those minutes will create your day.
We are being bombarded everywhere with the media telling us so many untruths and dwelling on the economy, gas prices and the housing crisis. There is only so much of this your mind and body can take. These messages cause stress. And when you get stressed you can not create meaningful, workable solutions to whatever situation you are in. Stress causes your thoughts to enter a part of your brain that is responsible for your survival. This is the part of your brain that is all about the very basics; food, shelter and clothing. So when your thoughts live in this part of your brain, it is like getting into a viscous cycle of negativity. It then causes you to have thoughts of worry.
Worry is the misuse of the imagination. Worry is like negative goal setting. It makes your brain react to stress with more worry and then creates your moods. You have over 60,000 thoughts in a day so we know you can't control all of your thoughts. But we can create our moods. When you let worry take over your mood you will not be able to make good and positive decisions about your life and your business. Moods are an accumulation of feelings that are actually stored on physical neural networks.
These moods then create more feelings. So if you are worried you will create feelings of anxiety. Anxiety produces results that are not what you are looking for. Anxiety create an illusion of what really is and thus you begin to make poor choices and begin to react rather than to respond. The anxious feelings create a negative outlook. You being to see things in a way to support your worry.
So how can you break out of this worry and anxiety driven cycle? Begin by taking one small problem you are facing. Really focus on finding a positive solution to that one small problem. DO NOT try to solve all of your problems in one sit down. That is going to cause you even more anxiety and then you will feel overwhelmed and even give up on trying to create positive solutions.
Once you have found a good positive solution to one small problem go for it and apply it. Don't wait, don't hesitate, just do it. Then if it is a mistake you can adjust it. If it is right, then great! You move on to the next problem. We learn from our mistakes so it is perfectly fine to make them.
It is the act of action that propels you out of worry and anxiety. Worry and anxiety create frozen and powerless feelings. While action, no matter how small it may be, creates empowering feelings, confidence, self worth and success. It is more important to focus on your actions than your results. As long as your are in massive action mind frames your desired results will come.
I like to say; you can act your way into feeling but you can not feel your way into action. Don't wait until you FEEL like taking action. Just do it and do it now. Feel the power within. And then follow these tips:
- Don't watch the news.
- Turn off the TV.
- Go out and walk.
- Read good healthy books to expand your mind.
- Work more on yourself than you do on your business. Then your business will always serve you.
- Look for opportunities! There are many opportunities for you right now. Look for them.
- Keep your eyes and ears open! Look for open doors.
In great economic times there are millionaires being made and those that choose to remain broke. In bad economic times the same applies; there are people becoming millionaires right now and there are those who still choose to be broke. It is the power of your thoughts that creates your own circumstances. Your money can't keep you where your mind can't hold you.
There is always ying and yang, good and evil, negative and positive. Seize the day! Make it count and make it yours! Make it a Great Week! Choose to have your best week ever!

Thank you for the uplifting message. We should all put these ideas into practice.
A very good post and most inspiring. It is great to set the stage in the morning and before bed time. My cat teaches me a lot -- she plays first thing in the morning when she get us and then plays again before she turns in for the night.
As always Katerina and Nestor, you speak wise words. We should all take heed in the wisdom and truth to what you are saying. I quit watching the news years ago. Some may see that as a selfish act but I see it as protecting myself from negativity and dispair.
I believe we create our own reality and everything I do proves it to myself. My thoughts are my own worst enemy and my own best friend. I am in control of this programming. Thank you for the reminder and for the advice that can't be purchased. It is priceless and I thank you.
Later in the rain~Deb
Katerina,
Wouldn't it be great to spend that 30 minutes a day, 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes before retiring, in beautiful thoughts...asking guidance for the day and giving thanks for the day!!! Thanks, Fran
Katerina - Great advise, I stopped watching the news 2 years ago, and I'm much better off for it. Attitude makes a big difference and the news is nothing but bad.
Katerina- Well said. I too quit watching the news ages ago and I feel and think so much better. It's hard to feel good when all the news is who killed who and the world is coming to an end. Gee, who needs to hear all that. I like Fran's idea a whole lot better
My thoughts are my worst enemy.. I agree with Deb.... I have been going through self pity party.. but I'm over it now... I just have to look for opportunity or create them for myself....
Thanks for you words of widsom.... It came a good time for me.....
Katerina you have really gotten me into The Secret philosophy as well. I am trying to focus on positive stuff and seeing the future.
Good advice I have said for years" Attitude determines you altitude" a good frame of mind makes all the difference.
I have never worried about something I can't control and that's a lesson I have taught my kids as well. A positive attitude will always deliver positive results. For example - I KNOW I'm going to get a contract on a short sale this coming week! :)
Great post Katerina. Stress can be a silent killer if you are not careful. I like your tips in this one. I need to make a conscious effort to de-stress EVERYDAY!!
Simon- And I know you will too:)!
Katerina, I stopped my Washington Post subscription! The front page was such a downer! I read the comics and my horoscope, which I can do online!
Katerina~ I stopped watching the news and RARELY even watch tv. I never turn it on, but my husband does so I do hear it in the background.... Thanks for the inspiring messages that you always do so willingly!
Thanks for the post and I agree 100% --- and we all should take time to do whatever it takes to de- stress ourselves ---
Katerina,
You are right what we focus on is in the end what we become. We have the choice of being either negative or positive and I choose to be positive. You made a very good point about the first 15 minutes of the day and the last 15 minutes of the day. I used to get up and the first thing I would do is turn on the news and I would also end the day that way. I stopped doing that about a month ago, because I was tired of the negative and just leave it off now and it does make a difference.
Don R.
Katerina, The best piece of advice you gave was "Don't watch the News" I used to be a "news junkie" and was told to stop watching at ALL....it was difficult to do but I realized I was bombarded with sad and upsetting information all the time. Sadly, the last thing many people do before going to bed is to watch the news....Wonderful post!
Katerina, I strongly agree that we need to be very picky about what we feed our mind. The news has been much more negative in the last two years than ever before. Limiting exposure to most media is more important now than ever.
Marzena- As more people stop watching the news, the media will get a clue, eventually. It is that humans are drawn to negative news and it makes for good gossip so the media needs those ratings and thus there it is. We need to send a different message.
Amy- Thank you for reading my post. Make it a wonderful week!
Joan- Cats are wonderful teachers of so many things! They can also tell who is a good person and not. I have always had Siamese cats and raised them for quite a few years. This is the first time in my life I have been without a cat. My Cleo died last year in November and I have not wanted to fill his space yet. He was with us for 13 years. He would come around people with good spirits, and the others he would not go near. He was my guiding compass.
Deb- You said it so well, your thoughts are your worst enemy and your best friend, like Jekyl and Hyde. It is so true. I will be doing some more posts on this subject, one of my passions!
Very cool post...
I always liked the phrase "thoughts have wings".
Meaning what you put out there mentally tends to manifest physically...

Outstanding Post, yes our thoughts and words are creative. Sometimes life bombards us with so much negative events, that we can slip out of focus. I noticed when I am tired thats when I am affected the most. When I am out of focus, or off purpose, I force myself to bring in at least one positive thought and focus on that. Early morning readings and positive affirmations help kick start my day. In the evening I go over specific affirmations, and spend a little idle quiet time just before bed. Thanks for the post, it is good to be reminded about things we think we know, because for me the brain needs a little reminder to keep me centered.
Fran- That is what I do every morning. I have a gratitude journal where I write the 5 things I am grateful for that day and the 5 things that I intend to be grateful for that day. It does work! The days go much better compared to days where perhaps I wake up grumpy and forget to do my gratitudes, those days I call myself back and say, let's start over! I also ask the Lord to show me today what his will is.
GA agent- Thoughts are things. What you think about you bring about! I love that saying. Thanks for contributing.
Paul- Thank you! You are moving in the right direction. The point is not to allow yourself to get stuck. We all have negative feelings and that is ok. The law of polarity. But we must recognize, allow and then let go. Not get stuck. People get stuck. Thank you for sharing.
Larry- That is great that you stopped watching the news. It is the worst thing we can do to get those negative impressions into our mind.
Deb- How would that be considered a selfish act?
Katerina-this is so true. Recently I told my husband to cut down watching BBC news and I bet he would start to feel better. He tried it out and it was a big difference in his attitude and moods! I agree..go do something..anything..just get away from the tube..the radio..for a little bit!
Very good advice Katerina. It's good to surround ourselves with positive people and things, that's one reason I don't watch the news.
So how can you break out of this worry and anxiety driven cycle? .... I just sit back and think of that song "Don't Worry, Be Happy"! - if we're going to be positive then we can't sweat the small stuff!
Carol, I love that song!
and here is one for you, http://activerain.com/blogsview/261486/Three-Little-Birdies-Everything
Be happy!
Midori- I am glad you got him to stop watching! When we stop watching the news, we are empowered to think. Thinking is good!
Patricia- We become just like those we hang out with. If we hang out with the media we become negative like them.
Martha- That is right! What we focus on expands:)
Donna- The bad thing about pity parties is no one comes! I am glad you shut yours down. We do have a right to one once in a while! Just don't get stuck there.
Michelle- I am glad you are doing that. Keep watching the secret. It really helps us to focus on our thoughts and feelings. The law of attraction really works. It is there whether we accept it or not.
Terry- That is right, your attitude determines your altitude! And I want to fly high:)
Kimberly- Stress is called the silent killer. We need to destress and also learn to live in the flow. Not fight the current.
Patricia- Good for you girl!:) We had stopped our paper for a couple of years and only read what we needed to read online. But now that we are doing all these short sales, Nestor had to start our paper again, now the negative news is serving us. He cuts out the articles about the market to send it along with our short sale packages to the lenders:) But I don't read it. And Nestor only reads the market stuff and business.
Vicky- Get some headphones and listen to some nice calm destressing music or learn another language or listen to positive motivational CD's to drown out the background TV!
Norma- Thank you for reading my blog. De stressing is an important part of our day as well as gratitude reflection.
Don- I am glad you did that and it will continue to make a huge difference in your life. Thank you for sharing.
Carole- I am so glad you stopped watching the news. It does not serve you. I always ask now, before watching anything, how is this serving me? If it is not, I walk away. I do watch Glenn Beck to keep up with politics during the election year. And I keep up with government, congress and such, from unbiased sources to keep up with fighting for my rights as a parent,my natural health care and keeping my taxes low and stuff that is important to my future like that. But none of the killings, and such, violence has no place in my mind.
Good solution to tackle one thing at a time, if too many things are bothering you, you just get overwhelmed and I see people do nothing. Hey FOX news did a report on twitter yesterday, it was great. That's the only channel I watch, except for Glenn Beck.
I stopped watching tv a long time ago. I don't want to know the news either. I dedicate 1 hour each day to my favorite sitcom "Frasier" and that's all.
I have 2 dogs and 4 cats. My husband's favorite cat, "Momma" often spends a few minutes with us before we drift off to sleep. While I'm not crazy about her purring in my ear (she's loud), there is something soothing about her purring us to sleep.
Katerina - "Worry is the misuse of the imagination." - pithy but deep!
what a very true post..i gave up watching the local news...it was the wrong way to start my morning.. I now do my walking (treadmill) and total gym to more positive uplifting music, or even my many cds of motivation..anthony robbins, Bon Jovi, led Zepplin, george michael, barry manilow
